546 Edgewood Avenue-Green Homebuilding in Atlanta

January 7, 2009

Carol and I went yesterday to check out Burke Sisco’s listing at 546 Edgewood Ave.  The house is tracking LEED Platinum and is really impressive.  From the outside it’s hard to imagine the space that’s inside, but it is really well planned out.  The first floor seems to be reserved for a store front/office/retail.  The second floor is home to the living space including a kitchen and living room, and the third floor is where the two bedrooms and bathrooms are located.  Above that is a wonderful roof top patio with stunning downtown views.  It will also feature a garden on the roof that will help serve as insulation.  The framing in the house is still open so you can really see all of the components that are going into it.  One cool thing that immediately jumps out is the 600 gallon cistern on the main level.  Typically you see something like this in the basement or even buried under ground.  Anyway, it will collect all water runoff from the gutters and will supply 100% of the water necessary for clothes washing, toilets & landscaping.   You can view tons more information and photos on Burke’s website  Be sure and check it out.

As the 2009 Atlanta Board of Realtors President, I am aware of the need for our Board to “go green.” There is no doubt that the well educated client of 2009 and beyond, will look for homes that are environmentally symbiotic.

I would be happy to talk to you more about this and see what we can do to help green up the Atlanta Board.
