The Midtown Green House

Today I made a stop at the Midtown Green House that the Hoots Group is building located in Midtown Atlanta.  I wasn’t exactly sure of the address, but I didn’t think it would be hard to find…and it wasn’t as I found it on the first street I drove down…green luck I guess.

Well, I was so pleased when I saw the house.  Having only seen renderings it’s a much bigger deal to see the actual house.  At this point there isn’t a ton to look at but there is a lot that has gone into it.  Since I follow Matt’s blog and facebook page(s) I know that a great deal of time and effort has gone into the design and implementation of this home.  It was chosen to be the showcase home for the 2010 Southern Builders Show and is tracking several green building certifications including EarthCraft House, LEED for Homes and NAHB Green.  The Hoots Group has hired green building consultant Carl Seville of Seville Consulting to handle the green building certifications.  If you are not familiar with Carl, check out his blog at http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/blogs/dept/green-building-curmudgeon .

The Midtown Green House even has it’s own video series…sort of.  Matt has been making videos throughout the process to explain what is happening with the house and even how the old house was recycled.  Check it out at http://midtowngreen.net/category/midtown-green-house-tv-mgtv/

The Green Council of the Atlanta Board of Realtors is going to be hosting an open house at Midtown Green on July 21st from 11am to 3pm.  The event is geared towards Realtors but all are welcome.  This is a chance to see a truly green house while it is being built.  Vendors that have their products in the home will be on hand to talk about their products and how they function in the house.  A green home is a system of moving parts that work together to provide a healthy environment that promotes efficiency and conservation.

We hope you will join us on July 21st at the Midtown Green House and see what all of the hype is about.
